Tom Arndt: A memory of Allen Downs as teacher and friend

Allen Downs was my teacher, graduate adviser and friend while I attended graduate school at the U of MN from 1969 to 1971.  My work lacked some discipline and clarity when I started the program.  Allen just sort of gently guided me in the right direction and we ended up being great friends.  He said I inspired him to start making photographs again and I remember several times when we went out and photographed together.  I would not have the success I have been blessed with if he hadn't entered my life at the most crucial time.  I owe you so much Allen, you are in my work and heart forever.

Sincerely,
Tom Arndt
